"Noli turbare circulos meos" ~ Legendary last words of Archimedes

A very interesting thing happened yesterday, a poster with Tim's picture and some very funny wordings in it suddently appeared near campus cafeteria. Anybody who know tim can easily conclude that the picture is a joke, but what about people who doesn't know tim? what would they think? I find it was very funny and I think Tim took it very graciously. At first I thought of displaying it here, but I don't want to rub salt in Tim's wound. From this I can draw two conclusion about my work place. 1) My co-workers are jovial and open minded (I have already come to this conclusion when I heard about dufus point system and the subsequent discussions on it). 2) Stay Alert!!(whatever that is ) and this becomes much more important as I am crossing my six months grace period. Even though I have this feeling of an impending attack, I think I am safe for the time being, the reason is that they have to know a little bit more about me before coming after me and I think I am still too much closed for them......

These things remind me of my college days, always playing jokes on one another , always trying to put one another in a tight spot, one has to be very careful , never know when your turn will be, you will be happily laughing with others and will be happily frying some other guy and with only a flicker of eyes the attack will change course and you will be in the hot seat and when guys like ilams, gnani, ananth, vijayakumar(nanbaaaa!!!), kamal etc are around, you don't even stand a chance........

For some reason, couldn't blog yesterday, but yesterday was fun, I would like to call it the "Ice cream Day". Attended the new employee orientation in the college, even though it is mostly for new faculty, I was invited, so attended the morning presentations(billy was funny) and the lunch( I had salad, pasta and ice cream) and the introduction function with administrative staffs, couldn't attend the evening wine and cheese reception!!! In the afternoon, we had departmental meeting and had Ice cream. Was talking with Pat Cronin about his Ireland visit, seems to be a very interesting place , the interesting observation here is the fact that his dad worked here, retired and went back there and settled...........

Went to play MOHAA late in the evening, no rookies today , it was very nice, had a first look at spearhead, the weapons seems to be awesome. We had a group of like minded people , who are crazy about the game, so it was intense(actually matt c, steve and mike were shouting and commanding the troops all the time). I have a philosophy about why people(including me) get so crazy about video games, may be some other time. Came back late at night and lost some more sleep because of the towing ticket on the red car, had to take care of it......

The thought of the day was about Sherry Austin's new hit - streets of heaven. Whenever I hear this song , it reminds me of people who I know went thro' more or less the same crisis and I think it makes me understand their lose more intimately. Along with Joe Nichols's two hits - Brokenhearsville and She only smokes when she drinks - this song also became my favourite flavour of this season. There are other songs also but these are the songs of the moment.......

It was very hectic at work yesterday(08/27/03) , I think its going to be like this until my module comes "Live" around october Ist week. Lets see how it goes. But in the evening I had fun. The softball practice sessions started yesterday to get ready for the departmental matches, I think I will get to play this time, the previous year I watched it from the sidelines as I was a student at that time, IT is the defending champ.

The basic rule in softball, baseball etc. is the same as that of cricket - hit the ball and run - but the similarities end there, as the saying goes, "its a different ball game", its much more like the "Sixers Game". I enjoyed it, even thou' I didn't do that well yesterday, I know I can do better.

After that went home, took megha to friends park, each time I go with her there, I also become a child. I play the swing and the "sarukkal" along with her. I don't know what the other parents think about the big boy(ok ok man) playing in children's swing, but some of the others also do that, so I think I don't look like a retarded guy

Yesterday's highlight - went to play MOHAA(Medal of Honour-Allied Assault) in matt's house. As usual it was an invigorating experience, I know some people are not into these video games( I still call them that) but I for one, when I like the game, I get addicted to it. Yesterday's match was fun, there were a couple of rookies( I was recently promoted from the rookie status to a guy to recken with) but it was a blast. We had a free-for-all at the end and I came third in the pool of five so called experts.

My association with video games started, I think in my high school years(MHSS, KARUR,TN, INDIA). Near the church corner, someone put a video game in their house and you get to play one game for 75paise, I used to go there with Ashok ( his father used to have a printers - thirumal printers - near church corner, I don't know what he is doing right now). I remember that I used to play tennis in it. As I have to pay for it, couldn't continue that much. A long gap, caught up with it when I went to chennai, we had a computer in the room itself and used to play a racing game in that, liked it very much, a small gap and then MOHAA started........

All day today, I was a little bit sleepy, 'cause as usual went to bed around 2.00 am. Even though that's more or less the usual time , today somehow felt tired. But eventually got some work done in the afternoon.... couldn't watch Contact yesterday, the VHS tape was so bad that even I couldn't tolerate it, ended up watching "The Last Castle" (robert redford of BC & SK fame and james gondolfini of Sophrano's fame), waste of time, thou' gondolfini did his part well of a Colonel with acute Inferiority complex guarding a prison facility. Atleast after that , I could have gone to bed, not me!! I don't learn my lessons, continued reading "The Negotiator" (Frederick Forsyth), will finish it today. People writing crap spy novels(Robert Ludlum et al.) should take lessons from this man, very clear plot and narative style, loaded with info.

The main thing on my mind today was the Mumbai Blast and its implications. If some crackpot religious zealot thinks that he can "mind-bend" gullible people and wreck havoc, India should definitely prove them wrong. In this issue, the Israelites are doing the right thing, reprisal. May be we should also go for the source, attack a couple of training camps across the border, form our own "kidon" squads and go after the terrorist leaders, put the ball in their court. I think India has the military might to do that and guess what, I think we can weather the International pressure also. I don't know , may be I am over-reacting, but I am sick of this.

On a lighter note, got to hear Boys(shankar's) songs and saw a couple of lesa lesa video songs(again!!!). I like almost all the songs in lesa lesa, particularly "aval ulaga azhagiye"( just hear the song, don't watch the video, couldn't tolerate shyam and couldn't watch Trisha smiling artificially showing all her teeth) even though the last "konnakkol" bit has been "appeetted" from Spanish Wave(L.subbu) and only a couple of songs in boys, may be I'll like the other songs with video...........

For a long time, I was thinking of putting whatever goes thro' this weird thing called "mind" , in some form of writing. As I don't want to change my inherent laziness and as I am an unchangeable introvert(i was astonished when barathan mentioned this word in casual conversation long time back), this was and is an impossible task. Anyway I am going to give it a try, let's see how it goes.

For those who stumble upon these logs, as the name indicates(kannaadi in my mother tongue tamil means mirror) these logs are supposed to reflect me or can I say my chain of thoughts rather than chain of events happening in my day-to-day journey. If by somehow you happen to see yourself in my mirror, bingo!!! you also happen to think like the most worst or can I say the best megalomaniac I know.

Got to talk with ilams after a long time, it was nice, heard that his brother got posted to Meghalaya, had to get details about the state. Probably going to watch "Contact" tonight, read the book a week back, so it should be interesting, watched vivek's comedy from 12b , the highlight is the way he says "same to you" at one stage..................
